Home Life at Newton Dee

More than just a place to live, it’s a place to truly belong.

At Newton Dee, home is more than just a place to live, it is a shared way of life, built on warmth, inclusion, and mutual support.

Our community is made up of 36 unique households, set within 180 acres of beautiful wooded grounds, 120 acres of which is dedicated to our biodynamic farm. Each home is a place where people of all abilities live together as an extended family, fostering deep connections and a true sense of belonging.

Our households vary in size, from small, close-knit homes with just four residents to larger houses of up to 16 people. Additionally, we offer shared houses, apartments, and bed-sits, ensuring that everyone has a living space suited to their needs and preferences.

Long-term co-workers, often families with children, take responsibility for each household, assisted by short-term co-workers. Together, they create a warm, welcoming home environment for adults with learning disabilities and additional support needs. There is no rigid separation between work and home life; rather, we share daily routines, meals, and moments of joy in a natural, family-style setting. Each household has its own unique character, shaped by the people who live there.

As part of the worldwide Camphill Movement, Newton Dee continues a tradition that began in Aberdeen – the very heart of the movement’s origins. Our homes are places of friendship, purpose, and care, where everyone contributes to the life of the community. Whether gathering for meals, working in the gardens, or enjoying shared celebrations, life at Newton Dee is rich with meaning and connection.

Work Life at Newton Dee

A place to grow, contribute, and be part of a meaningful community.

At Newton Dee, work is more than just a task, it’s a meaningful way of contributing to the community, developing skills, and finding purpose.

We believe that everyone has something valuable to offer, and our diverse range of workshops and enterprises provide fulfilling opportunities for all.

Through training, education, and hands-on experience, we support individuals in developing their abilities. Our community members take part in a variety of trades and crafts, from joinery, metalwork, and textiles to farming, gardening, and landscaping. Many are involved in the daily running of our bakery, kitchens, store, and café, ensuring that fresh, high-quality goods are available to both residents and visitors. Our dairy, which opened in 2024, also provides an exciting opportunity to engage with traditional food production.

Work life at Newton Dee fosters personal growth, creativity, and teamwork. Each person, regardless of ability, plays an essential role in maintaining the rhythm of community life. By working together, we create goods and services that benefit not only Newton Dee but also the wider community. For those unable to take part due to age or health, we ensure that they remain included in community life through supportive roles and social activities.

Our approach encourages a sense of achievement, belonging, and dignity, helping each individual to become the best version of themselves.
