Newton Dee has relations to the ‘wider community’ on several levels –
As part of the Camphill Village Trust (CVT) which is the charity and company within which Newton Dee belongs and operates. Within the structure of CVT there are many functions, operations, committees and working groups that create the working relationships between the eleven communities of the CVT in the UK. The two centres in Scotland, at Newton Dee and Loch Arthur in Dumfriesshire and the nine centres in England are all communities that support and create opportunities with adults with learning disabilities.
As part of several associative structures Newton Dee works with its Camphill colleagues in the Scottish region, within the UK and Ireland and internationally. Camphill is not an organisation with a central management structure rather an association of like minded communities bound through their common philosophies and ethos.
Both independently and as part of its associative relationships with other Camphill communities Newton Dee has many relationships with individuals, organisations and structures beyond its borders.
Locally Newton Dee offers services to its local community via its store, café and bakery and there are many who like to visit Newton Dee’s estate and grounds.
The local Community Council of Milltimber, Bieldside and Cults has, for a number of years, held its annual festival formal opening and its art exhibition in Newton Dee’s Phoenix Hall. Other local groups have and do use the various Newton Dee facilities.
As well as being involved in both Aberdeen and Scottish political and social care issues that directly effect Newton Dee, a wider brief is also kept that involves Newton Dee directly or indirectly in the UK affairs and in areas where the wider investments and concerns of Camphill are being debated and discussed in one form or other.
